"Because Nice Matters" Award

I have been nominated by two dear ladies for the "Because Nice Matters" award--Trisha of My2Roses & Miss Rhea of SweetnShabbyRoses. All I can say is thank you. I am humbled and hope to be able to live up to the spirit of the award.

Now comes the important part--to pass the torch and nominate some deserving persons for kindnesses shown when no one was looking. I nominate:

1. Joyce Lucas, founder of MakeMinePink, for how she looks after all her baby bears

2. Sharon of C'est Chouette, for her willingness to spend countless hours helping computer illiterates like me, working on our blogs

3. Amy, of BunnyRoseCottage, for always having a kind and encouraging word to say when it is most needed

4. Sharon, of Sweet Victorian Rose, because she is kindness personified

5. Susan, of My Vintage Charm for always taking the time to reach out and hug the Pink Sister who is just behind her in the LPB line-up
6. Dianne, of Mama's Pocketbook, for her kind and generous spirit--always going the extra mile to help

New Pretties

I just had to share pictures of the new pretties that just arrived. I love Tea For One sets, don't you? They make morning tea seem special somehow.

These are from Ambiance Collections. Just look at the lids--the pansy and rose look almost real!

They make great gifts, too (hint, hint!)...

Spread Your Wings and Fly

It's been awhile since I was here last... I have been so busy getting my son ready to move to college and then the actual move. It's done. He's on his own and already spreading his wings. Classes start tomorrow and he will have to fly...

Thank you for all the kind words of support. It did help. Thursday (moving day) was hard. Friday was harder. Yesterday was better (I only cried once). Today I can think of other things. I have survived!

Beginnings and Endings

I was standing in line at Target (buying printer ink, of course) last night, behind a young mother and her 5 yr old son buying school supplies for his first day of school. I couldn't help overhearing all the excited chatter and it just hit me. My son is leaving. And I just started boo-hooing right there in line. The checker (a mom, of course) said she would always remember the moment--one starting school, one leaving home and the emotions of the 2 moms in different phases of life...

It's so hard to let them go. I remember my son's first day of Kindergarten like it was yesterday. I cried then, too....

Treasure your children. The time that we have them under our wings of protection is short. But like a mama bird, I know that they have to leave the nest and learn to fly. My firstborn's time has come. The first flight is scary. Mistakes will be made--he might even fall once or twice. But, soon, I'll watch him soar.

New Tea Cozy--Burgundy Taffeta and Lace

Well, I had a better day at the sewing machine yesterday. I put this new cozy together with few interruptions. I love the tassel trim on this one. It has just enough gold to complement the burgundy. Have a look:
I photographed it with my Royal Albert Old Country Roses teapot in this photo. I love the way the burgundy looks with it!

I'll be putting the finishing touches on a matching Tea Tray Cloth today. Hopefully, I'll have it in my shop by tomorrow.

Can you believe it's already August? My son heads off to college in 2 weeks. I'm not sure how I feel about that yet... I remember when he started Kindergarten. It seems like it was just yesterday. Where did the time go? And, my daughter starts High School this year. I'm thankful to have 4 more years with her at home. Laugh if you will, but my kids are so precious to me. I really enjoy being around them. (Although, I do not like my son's choice of music--Metal, but it's Christian Metal--don't know how you would ever know. But he has a heart for the Lord, so I guess it's okay.) DD and I had a fun "Girls Day Out" last Friday. We went to an antique mall to browse for a gift for a friend. DD loves old books--the way they look, so that's what she was looking at while I was looking at tea cups. Afterwards, we shared an order of Bread Pudding with Praline Sauce at the Tea Room. Sweet memories...

Why is it?

I had one of those days with my sewing yesterday. Why is it that some days everything goes smooothly and then some days everything goes wrong? First, the bobbin runs out of thread at a crucial point, or the thread decides to knot up or break. Then the dog comes in and runs off with the lace or trim. Then I forget what I am doing and sew the seam too narrow or too wide. Then Somebody can't figure out how to pull up the weather on the computer and I have to stop everything to go downstairs to do it (why am I the only person in the house that knows how to do that?). Listen to me complain! It was so bad that it is just funny now. I'm laughing at the comedy of errors! Giggling to myself actually... I finally just put it up and closed the door and went shopping.

So today, I'll try again. I hope to finish a new Taffeta and Lace Tea Cozy and Tea Tray Liner in burgundy. I love working with that fabric! Why didn't I do it sooner?!

Tea Cup and Saucer Tote Give Away Results

I would like to say thank you to all who sent a nomination. It was a difficult decision--there are so many deserving women out there. I wish I could send something to each one, but here's a challenge for those who nominated someone: Write them a note today expressing the sentiments that you expressed to me. Let that person know that you are grateful for the impact she had on your life. Life is short--do it today.

The winner of the Tea Cup and Saucer Tote is Sharon, nominated by Rhea.
