Teatime is by its very nature a combination of small luxuries arranged in social symmetry. And although tea for one is certainly a fine thing, the addition of a circle of dear friends to share it with ensures the whole is larger than its parts.

Anna, the Duchess of Bedford is credited with starting the custom of afternoon tea in the early 19th century. One afternoon she experienced a “sinking feeling” at about four, several hours before dinnertime, served at the fashionably late hour of eight. Not wishing to burden the kitchen staff, she requested “just a cup of tea with a slice of cake”. Refreshed and revived, she began to order her afternoon tea daily. Soon friends were joining her for this late afternoon delight, and the ritual spread. By the Victorian era it had become an elaborate social gathering with tarts, pastries, and even little sandwiches.

Today we have the freedom to follow the tradition of an ordered, formal occasion, or make afternoon tea a more informal, yet graceful occasion. Either way, it is a wonderful way to refresh body and mind and celebrate friendship.

In this fast-paced world we live in, taking time to smell the roses or spending time with loved ones over a cup of tea is a respite that refreshes. My hope is that I can inspire you do just that through The Sweet Necessi-Teas Afternoon Tea Society!


What does membership include?

Each month for 1 year you will have an opportunity to purchase an Afternoon Tea package that includes a Tea Cozy of the Month, 2 sampler tins of premium loose leaf tea, a printed tea party plan with photos, menu, recipes, and a surprise. (Please note: The contents of the Afternoon Tea package will not be offered for sale except to Afternoon Tea Society members. Also, each package will be offered for sale only for a limited period of time.)
Monthly e-newsletter for members only
Limited edition products will be made available for purchase by members before release to general public
Member-only sales and promotions
Idea exchange and tea etiquette questions answered in newsletter
An Afternoon Tea Novice Starter Kit will also be available for purchase at a reduced price. It will include tea ware for hosting an afternoon tea with style and grace. (If you are a tea enthusiast and already have the items, you may purchase the kit to give as a gift!)



How much does it cost?

A special Afternoon Tea Society Charter Membership will be offered Friday morning through Monday, June 7, 2010 (Extended due to a computer glitch!)

One year Membership fee of $35. (After June 7, the membership fee will be $50.)
$35 per month plus shipping for the Afternoon Tea package, if you decide to purchase.

The membership fee is non-refundable.
By joining, your name will be added to a members-only e-mail and newsletter list. I promise I will not sell your information to a third party. If you cancel your membership, your name will be removed from the list.


How Do I Join?

Click on the link below and look for the Afternoon Tea Society category on the upper left sidebar of my website. For the discounted membership fee, you must join by Monday, June 7th. (Extended due to a computer glitch…)
The first Afternoon Tea package will be available for viewing and purchase on Sunday afternoon through Friday, June 11.
Shipments will go out on June 21st.
